The house's placement at the intersection of the valley and hills made drainage paramount and access to the site difficult. The foundation is constructed of cast-in-place concrete, with wood framing above concrete floors. Hydronics (a system of tubing in which hot water flows) was used to heat the house with hot water tubing cast directly into the concrete floors. The benefits of this system are a consistent temperature throughout the house and lower energy bills. Work included the site preparation required to keep the house dry, including complex drainage and waterproofing, and construction of the main house, connecting bridge and garage.
"The design and sloping hillside site required an enormous amount of foresight, patience, and a considerable knowledge of construction process, construction equipment, construction materials, teamwork and determination."
