Located above the Hood River Valley this Dam holds water which supplies over 400 farms and generates Hydro Electric Power as well.
A Contractor had been hired to install a new spillway. He failed to complete the work and left a gaping hole in the Dam as the rains started.
Schommer & Sons responded with 100 men, working 24 hours a day for 6 weeks in an effort to save the Dam.
Through intense cold, snowstorms, wind storms of nearly 100mph, rainstorms, ice storms the crews struggled against the elements and a time table to both save the Dam and satisfy the requirements of FERC, The Army Corp of Engineers, Wildlife Department and other regulating agencies.
The work was completed successfully with all requirements met.
